Libya Challenge:100 Limbs Raised From Your Great Generosity

3L would like to graciously thank all that contributed to the Libyan Challenge fundraising initiative. Together, and in support of the Team NZ Libya, we managed to raise US$5,000. This is an amazing effort!! Hats off to all that donated and supported in any way – cash, words, emails, thoughts.

The key difference between this and taking no action is that it shows we all care and by doing so, we all change the future, often in ways that we might not ever know.

While the Libyan Challenge was cancelled the team did manage to complete, under race conditions and with no medical support, what they have coined the Lazaroti Island Ultra Volcanic Master Trek. This entailed 180km trek over 42 hours around the volcanic Island - photos of the journey are posted on the 3L Face book page.

So what happens now with the donations - what’s next??
Now the funds will transferred to Jaipur Foot, who will use the money for the direct manufacture of 100 prosthetic limbs. These will then be placed on economically challenged survivors of landmines accidents and war that would otherwise never have had the chance to walk freely again.

Over the next few months 3L will be sure to update the website with information about the manufacture and placement of these limbs. And hopefully you won’t mind receiving an email or two about the progress too.

As a closing thought here’s an idea to throw around when you’re thinking what you’d like to do or achieve with the remainder of the 2011. Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group (with annual income of over 25 Billion and more than 300 companies’)  was asked a question in front of a collective group of intelligent young business people “How do you become more productive?”

Branson leaned back in his chair and broke the anticipatory silence saying:

“Work Out”.

All the best with creating your challenge and meeting your dreams in 2011.

3L Survivor Support Team.
